Brain and Being

There is often a strong duality to my artworks, as shown in my frequent use of opposing materials – heavy natural stone for instance, juxtaposed with lightweight manufactured paper. It is a lifelong struggle of mine, to find a sort of wholeness and unity between opposites. It could also be regarded as an attempt to reconcile left and right brain activity.

This video has been sent to me twice in the last year or so. You may already have seen it. I still find it inspiring, and can only stand in awe of what  human beings are really capable of.

It is the story of how Jill Bolte Taylor, an American neuroscientist observed the journey of her own stroke as it happened, and her subsequent recovery. Fascinating stuff on left and right brain, as well as an amazing human story and spiritual insight.

About throughstones

I am primarily a visual artist, living on the North Devon coast, a beautiful semi-rural area in South West England. I am interested in full engagement with 'place' and the eternal movement of life - particularly as it relates to what we call 'the natural environment'.
